Decorate Your White Walls With An Etched Mirror

Author: Janett Finnila

You've just moved into a beautiful apartment but the white walls are going to drive you over the edge. Not to worry! A few accessories, some window treatments, and an etched mirror and suddenly your room will come to life.

When you rent sometimes there are restrictions about what you can or cannot do. Some landlords won't let you get the paint brush out and add some color so you have to use other creative means. Here are some ideas to bring a little life to your room.

1. Etched Mirror
You might be wondering what a mirror can do for your white wall d'cor. The answer is plenty! Etching is an art form. Suddenly a mirror becomes a painting - a beautiful eagle, a seascape with lighthouse, puppies playing, or the cutest kitten ever.

Combine the etching with a bold wood frame and wow suddenly your white wall comes alive. Etched mirrors come in all sizes - combine a medium with two smaller, an ultra large one, or several smaller ones. Mix and match how you like.

If your room doesn't have a window use your mirror to make a window. It's a great way to give the illusion of lightness and you can choose your own etched image.

2. Window Treatments
Color, color, color. White won't look white anymore when you add some color on the windows. You've heard it before. Go big or go home. Well make that window dressing stand out. Deep, vibrant colors will add a richness to the room, or bright vibrant colors can add some fun to a room.

3. Rooms Screens
Decorative screens are a great way to divide your room space and add color. Don't need to divide a room then use one of the screens to brighten a white wall.

There are all kinds of designs and patterns available from flowers to oriental scenes to landscapes. So you can choose one that's trendy or sophisticated. Use colors and patterns that enhance your room d'cor.

4. Foliage
Turn your room into a tropical jungle and you will instantly discover that white doesn't matter any more. Suddenly all the greenness combined with the soft lighting and your room has come to life.

Now live plants are always the best but if they are just too much work for you or you don't have the optimum growing conditions there are some great silk plants on the market that will do the job.

5. Shelving
Mount shelves on the wall. Place mirrors behind then place reflective items like crystal on the shelves. These will reflect the light and bring things to life. Adding plants works great two. Suddenly things are growing and you are presented with a lush green miniature tropical garden.

6. Photographs & Paintings
A beautiful painting or photograph will instantly bring your wall to life. Choose a size that's appropriate to the wall size. Once again you can mix and match. One large piece or several smaller pieces.

Your art work will look great if you theme it with your room and you might also consider making it a focal point. Funny how suddenly the white wall disappears and all that's left to grab your attention is that awesome photo of that 1920 Ford.

7. Fabric
We've stressed it earlier - color, texture, and pattern are all great ways to add life to a room. Not only in your furniture but on your walls. Create beautiful valances that hang from the ceiling adding color and life to the room. Compliment your furniture using the same fabric or fabric in complimentary shades.

8. Lighting is an important element in the d'cor of every room. Today's portable lighting choices offer a lot more choices for the renter. Accent lighting will add drama to your room as will incandescent lighting.

Consider adding spot lighting over your etched mirror to enhance the etching and help bring it to life.

When you rent completely redecorating may not be an option and those white walls may be something you have to live with but using etched mirrors and wall d'cor can instantly bring your walls to life.
